ETSI CAdES/PAdES Profile B-B / B-T Specification

Technical explanation of ETSI & ISO 32000 PDF Advanced Electronic Signature (PAdES) Profiles:

1. What is PAdES Baseline Profile B-B?

PAdES Profile B-B (Baseline Basic) ensures that digital signatures embedded in PDF documents are globally recognized by Adobe Reader as valid signatures. It encapsulates the signer’s X.509 certificate, SHA-256 hash digest, and visual signature appearance.

2. What is PAdES Baseline Profile B-T?

PAdES Profile B-T (Baseline Time) incorporates a cryptographically secure RFC 3161 Time-Stamp Authority (TSA) token into the signature structure. This proves non-repudiably the exact date and timestamp when the signature was applied.

🔑

PKCS#7 Digital Signatures & Byte-Range Cryptography

Cryptographic structure of PKCS#7 signed data objects and PDF Byte-Range verification:

1. What is PKCS#7 / CMS Architecture?

PKCS#7 (Public Key Cryptography Standard #7) is an international cryptographic standard for signed data encapsulation. When signing a PDF in ViViD eSigner, a PKCS#7 SignedData blob is constructed using RSA/ECDSA keys and embedded into the PDF’s internal `/ByteRange` array.

2. Tamper-Evident Byte-Range Integrity

If anyone alters even 1 byte or character of the PDF after signature placement, Adobe Reader and our online verification portal immediately detect hash mismatch and display a tamper warning.

Global Statutory Frameworks & Legal Acts

🇺🇸 US ESIGN Act & UETA

Compliant with Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN) for legally binding commercial contracts in the USA.

🇪🇺 EU eIDAS Regulation

Adheres to EU Regulation No 910/2014 for Advanced Electronic Signatures (AdES) with cryptographic signer identity verification.

🇮🇳 India IT Act 2000 (Sec 3A / 5)

Follows Section 3A & Section 5 electronic signature standards utilizing PKCS#7 cryptographic digests for legal non-repudiation.
